Este libro, dirigido especialmente a lectores mayores de cinco años, presenta el relato que un abuelo narra a su nieta mientras ambos contemplan una tormenta. Ella le pide a su abuelo que le explique cómo ha llegado a tener la apariencia física que luce en la actualidad. Entonces él le explica que cuando era un joven vaquero lo sorprendió una fuerte lluvia y, como no tenía donde refugiarse, el agua produjo las arrugas de su rostro; luego que la tormenta pasó, él decidió dormir una siesta y, mientras lo hacía, vino un colibrí y le sacó todos sus cabellos negros, dejando sólo los blancos. Y en cuanto a su vientre abultado, el abuelo le dice a su nieta que eso se debe a la gran cantidad de maíz y ají que comió; en su vientre el maíz se inflaba y lo mismo ocurría con su vientre.
