Book Description
for Five Minutes by Audrey Vernick, Liz Garton Scanlon, and Olivier Tallec
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
How long is five minutes? Well, it depends. To a boy waiting in line with his mom at the post office, “five minutes is forever!” Ditto when he’s sitting in traffic, drying the dishes, or waiting for the bathroom. Five minutes during a dental appointment is agonizingly long. It’s an eternity when he’s standing in line for a rollercoaster, but it’s not nearly long enough for the ride itself. Other times, like when he’s taking a bath, it’s just a waste of time. But five minutes is the perfect amount of time for a good story before going to bed. Expressive pencil and acrylic illustrations depict a brown-skinned, multiracial boy in this highly relatable exploration of the subjectivity of time. (Ages 3–5)
