In this sequel to Owen and Mzee, the story of the remarkable friendship between an orphaned baby hippopotamus and a giant, 130-year-old tortoise continues. The focus of this book is the special communication the animals have developed over time. Owen has gained some independence but is act ing more like a tortoise than a hippo. As a result, the Haller Park caretak ers compel Owen to spend time with another orphaned baby hippo, Cleo. Ultimately, they hope that Owen and Cleo will accept each other but that Mzee can still be a part of Owen’s life.
