Book Description
for Wolf Wanted by Ana Maria Machado and Laurent Cardon
From The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY)
It all starts with a small ad in the newspaper—wolf wanted. Manny is hu man, but he’s unemployed and his last name is Wolf, so he decides to apply for the job anyway. The company hires him to work in their human resources department, sorting through the letters from wolves that have applied for the position. Reading the letters, Manny quickly figures out which wolves aren’t right for the job and writes reply letters that redirect them to more fitting jobs, such as the Big Bad Wolf in the story of the “Three Little Pigs” or the wolf in sheep’s clothing in Aesop’s Fables. Ana Maria Machado has received the most significant Brazilian awards and international honors. In 2000, she was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Award for her life’s work. lvb
