Book Descriptions
for The Everything Book by Denise Fleming
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
Most books for toddlers don’t have 64 pages. But then, most books for toddlers don’t have a little bit of everything. The things that interest babies and toddlers are all here: shapes, colors, kitchen toys, body parts, the numbers one to five, the alphabet, meal time, pets, seasons, babies’ faces, a train, traffic lights, and a selection of nursery songs and rhymes. All are exquisitely illustrated with Fleming’s signature vivid colors. She created the illustrations by pouring color cotton fiber through hand-cut stencils. The result is an aesthetic experience generally not available to babies and toddlers. Fleming has also placed at least one ladybug on every double-page spread, usually in plain sight, though finding it occasionally requires some searching. (Ages 1-3)
