Now that Ivy and her brother, Ray are out of school, and their parents, Carol and Dan, are out of jail, it's high time for a Fitts family vacation. At least that's what Ivy thinks. But the road trip Dan proposes - based on family history he's been researching - sounds suspect to Ivy. What's so great about a family reunion with a long-lost second cousin named Gladys whom Ivy has never heard of before? Still, there's that giant ruby Dan says is a family heirloom and may or may not be worth a fortune, and there's that guy named Wolfgang who can make anything at all in his "verkshop." And besides, when you stick with Dan, roller coasters will appear out of nowhere! Life on the road can be grand, especially when Dan is in charge, but Ivy still has sneaking suspicions. Someone might be after them; what's Dan really up to? How can you know for sure what's real and what's fake, anyway?
